The Channel is a diverse community of donors that fosters a culture of generosity and learning and directs significant philanthropic funds to lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex and asexual (LGBTQIA+) opportunities in Australia.
Our purpose is to change the way Australians experience gender and sexuality for the better through philanthropy.
Why this model?
Usually, individuals wanting to support a social cause donate to an organisation working in that field. They rarely see what their donation is used for, or if the recipient of that donation achieves what they set out to achieve. When we come together and combine our financial resources through The Channel the result is collective impact and tangible change.
why this focus area?
Incredible not-for-profit organisations lead by / working with the LGBTQIA+ community, often run solely by volunteers, go under-funded by the government and overlooked by traditional trusts and foundations much of the time. We know this lack of funding is not due to a lack of need or opportunity.
The LGBTQIA+ community are engaged with The Channel at every level, from our leadership to our membership and through broader community involvement. The Channel knows the importance of understanding the needs we seek to address, and having a willingness to listen and learn along the way.
